Hello, hello – it’s Sasha the tooth-fairy here, and I am so excited… I can’t tell you how many spelling errors I’ve made while typing this blog for you today! Hah!
Indeed it is a special blog today, as we announce the arrival of Banjo the orangutan, and the Superhero Dentist. Together these awesome characters will bring information about oral-health and dental visits to your children, in a way that’s never been done before!
As you know, Doctor Rose is a pediatric dentist with her own practice, Eagle Crest Pediatric Dentistry. Over the last three years she has written and produced a number of books for children, focusing on oral-health and dental procedures. From the tooth-fairy to sharks, rabbits to Sugar Bugs and more, she uses a variety of exciting, child-friendly concepts as a way to convey information to both children and parents, making dental visits seem more fun and easy to understand.
Visiting the dentist for the first time can make any child worry. Their worry, of course, comes from what they’ve heard through others, and even seen on TV shows. The loud and weird noises the machines make, the seemingly intrusive and ‘pointy’ equipment that’s used to observe their teeth – all of this, for a first-time visitor to the dentist, can seem out of the ordinary and indeed a little scary.
Because visiting the dentist should be routine, in a child’s life especially, Rose set out to do away with the fear-based notions children adopt from others, and bring them the truth by explaining precisely what happens during a visit and how the tools are used.
But kids are far too curious sometimes, aren’t they; choosing to be cautious rather than accept what they’re told (which is a good thing in a developing mind)!
And so Rose decided that the best way to portray the message to children - that ‘going to the dentist is safe and necessary’ - would be to appeal to them personally; meet them on their level, in a sense. After weeks of discussion, the conclusion was reached that, yes, dentists are actually superheroes in scrubs! Of course they are – fighting the Sugar Bugs and other threats to children’s oral health. And so the Superhero Dentist came to be. And she’s everything a superhero should be; strong, funny, healthy and caring.
The series will consist of six books, each of them focusing on a different area of dental procedures and oral-health in children. The first book in the series, ‘Excited Banjo Meets The Superhero Dentist’ was released earlier this week, with great hope that kids will find both characters inspiring and, therefore, give the dentist a chance!
Each book, as you can imagine, takes months of production. And Rose has greater visions for Banjo and the Superhero Dentist. She hopes the orangutan-hero team can become somewhat of a comforter to kids around the world, keeping them brave and knowledgeable about all things dental. If you’re a parent who might struggle to convey a positive message to your children about the dentist, this book – and indeed the full series – was made just for you!
You can find the first book in the series as an instant download via Amazon, or you can purchase the paperback also via Amazon. Both Banjo and the Superhero Dentist will be visiting our social-media pages from time to time as well. So, go ahead and follow Doctor Rose on Facebook and Twitter to see more from them (and me) in future.
For now - from Doctor Rose, Banjo, the Superhero Dentist and me, it’s happy days to all of you!
