About me

I remember waking up to the African sunrises, seeing the colors of dawn unfold from purples and blues to warm reds, gold, and shades of orange. The silence before sunrise is a very special time. It allows you to connect with yourself and that which surrounds you, before the hustle and bustle of the day begins. It makes you realize your significance and that this existence is a gift, an awesome one.

I was born in a small town in Kenya, Africa.  My grandmother was a great storyteller. I pondered over the stories she told me and, as I grew older, their significance in my life became more apparent.

After college I moved to the United States where I went on to pursue my career ambitions in healthcare.  I received my doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, where my primary interest was children's dental care and reducing oral diseases in children. My personal ambitions to become a children's author, and create children's illustrated books, were put aside but certainly not forgotten.

At my dental practice I meet so many children every day.  Let’s face it, children are not inclined to put ‘going to the dentist’ on their list of fun things to do!  I find myself telling them educational stories as I work on their teeth, the same way I’d tell my children bedtime stories.

I combine my love for storytelling and humming tunes, and use this as a way to keep my patients intrigued and relaxed during treatment. It works!  With my patients asking for more stories – would I ever make them into storybook rhymes that kids could take home – I have been inspired to write reading books for children so that they are readily available, not just to my patients but to children around the world.

These humorous, insightful, thought-provoking, and sometimes even peculiar educational books for kids help children understand the importance of dental care and having healthy teeth.  I’m also pursuing stories from my childhood about growing up in Kenya, nature, and the simple things in life.

Although I’ll forever be African at heart I live in Havertown, Pennsylvania, with my husband and two children.
It’s my home away from home.
