Fun Facts about the Tooth Fairy...

I bet you know about the Tooth Fairy by now. They use your teeth to build castles in their world. Teeth are so strong and don’t need to be painted, because they’re already so shiny! Of course, the Tooth Fairy does not want to take your old teeth for nothing, and so they leave you a coin or – if you’re very lucky – a note of money that you can use to buy whatever you like. Hey, now – this does not mean you should go and pull out all of your teeth in the hope of getting rich!

When one of your teeth fall out, leave it in a little pouch or even some soft tissue, and the fairy will collect. In turn, she will leave you something that you can use to make your day a little more exciting; some money. These fairies are not rich by any means, so don’t expect too much, okay?  It’s the thought that counts, after all!

In my book Gently did the Tooth Fairy Creep, you’ll get to learn about which teeth grow first and then which ones fall out before the others. You’ll have a set of baby teeth at first, which will all come out as you grow and then be replaced by your big teeth; your adult ones that you’ll have for life.

Here are some fun facts about the Tooth Fairy. Remember, there are a few of them so they can differ in how they look.  But, generally, this is their story.

* The Tooth Fairy is a fantasy character presented to children mostly living in Western and Western-influenced cultures. The tradition of leaving a tooth under your pillow for the Tooth Fairy to find is practiced in quite a few countries in the English-speaking world.

* Tooth Fairies don’t all look the same. Some look like Tinkerbell while others are more rounded, heavier, and wear pants!

* Some countries believe that Tooth Fairies are boys, while others believe they are mice or dragons.

* It hasn’t always been this fun for children, though. In the middle ages, children were told to burn their teeth as they fell out, and if they did not they would spend all of their afterlife looking for them!

* Viking children were very lucky because Viking warriors believed that children’s teeth would bring them good luck in battle, and so Viking children were paid well for their old teeth!

* It has been researched and proven that believing in the Tooth Fairy can provide comfort to children going through fear or pain that may come from losing a tooth.

* Some of the oldest Tooth Fairies are as old as Santa Claus! Although, they have probably retired now and can rest in the sun with a tall, cool drink!

* Besides using your teeth to build castles, some say they also use them to make a magic powder that protects them from big birds who may think they are insects!

Overall, the chances of ever seeing a Tooth Fairy in real-life are very slim. They don’t really want to be seen, because some children would try to catch them like insects… that would not be too nice for the fairies.  Have you ever seen one, or think you’ve seen one?  Tell me in the comments – I’d really love to hear your story!
