Anxiety at the Dentist: The White Coat Woes

8/5/2025

Some kids are naturally anxious about the dentist. Others? Full-on drama. That’s normal — new places, new sounds, strangers with masks. But here’s the magic:

  • Talk it up positively. Avoid words like “pain,” “shot,” or “won’t hurt.” Instead - “We’re going to visit the Superhero Dentist who counts your teeth.”
  • Bring a comfort buddy. Favorite stuffed animal? Toothbrush-wielding Barbie? Perfect.
  • Read dentist-themed books before the visit. On Dr. Rose's site there are many to choose from, and if your child can't read alone yet, choose a title and watch it as a page-turning video.

And remember: pediatric dental offices are designed for kids — we’re not just about teeth; we’re about trust.
